Over the last nearly 200 years, war photography has been used to communicate both truth and propaganda about conflicts around the world. As the war progressed and the lethality of rifled muskets became all too evident, soldiers’ attitudes changed toward using cover in combat. What caught my eye this time was a story about knitting socks during the civil war, and what an important role those handcrafted treasures played in both the knitters' and the soldiers' lives.
